We love reading your comments and, yes, there has been an hiatus -- but that's all to do with us travelling remotely and having lots of wonderful experiences, just so we have something to blog about (!). So, on to the bit where we brag about our next fabulous, jealousy-inducing adventure; where we tell you all about our double dose of the Purnululu National Park -- by both air and ground [or flying and feeting, as we nicknamed it!] For Immi's 12th birthday treat, we bought tickets to fly over the Bungle Bungle Ranges. A change to the overall plan meant that the helicopter flight had to be replaced by a fixed-wing plane (helicopters only take three passengers and, hey ... there are four of us!). We were collected at the ridiculously early time of 5.15am and driven to the airport for a 6am flight. There were several reasons for taking the early flight -- better photographic light over the ranges, less thermal activity resulting in a smoother flight, and the early hour reduced the chance of motion sickness [some parts of the body were still asleep!]. It was a difficult decision to make, staying in a perfect place with lovely people. I think the 'soon-to-expire' visa helped make our minds up, that and the fact that our minds were becoming slack without the daily challenges that travelling brings. Itchy travllers feet had also made an appearence so off we went. It seemed from all accounts that the easiest way to cross the border into Cambodia would be with one of those air-con bus packages that seemed to be advertised everywhere in the small fishing port of Trat, Thailand. Any other method would have been near impossible, as the whole community prospers from the selling of these tickets. When this happens you will soon find that local taxi and bus drivers become markedly unhelpful when you ask them to take you to the border. Sometimes its just best to go with the flow. We were supposed to be taken to a crossing at Poi-Pet on the Cambodian border. Unfortunately we were taken to some absolute nowhere's-ville and fleeced by the local tourist-office/border-guard syndicate. They had it fixed so that the border guards would not take our money for the visa ...

It has seen better days, one of tyres is a little flat but we're soon loaded and ready to roll. Its a short drive to the town's custom post where we are to be officially stamped out of Chile. After formalities are completed, I'm leaving Chile for the second time in a month, we begin the climb on Ruta 27, a good quality two lane road, towards the Bolivian border at Hito Cajón. As we reach the pass we leave the metaled road, taking the unpaved B-243 the final few kilometres to the Bolivian border. Its shortly after 10am, we have covered 40km, gained a further 2200m elevation and been processed by the Bolivian border guards. Its beautifully bleak up here, and surprisingly cold despite the same clear blue sky that made San Pedro feel so pleasant a few hours ago. The customs are definitely no-frill, Michael O'Leary would love them. I am stamped into Bolivia with no problems. This is not the case for one of our number, Julie, who is traveling on a US passport. Despite protests in fluent Spanish she is asked to surrender this to the driver until we arrive in Uyuni where she can pay the visa fee of ...

Before we had come here we had read that the final of the Malaysian tennis Open was taking place. When we were looking through the Open website we noticed someone had 2 spare tickets for sale, so we emailed them to arrange to pick them up when we first arrived. It didn't turn out as easy as hoped and we spent a lot of time and money waiting around when we first got off the bus. We didn't meet them that day and so, no tickets in hand, we went to find out hotel we were staying in. When we (sorry I ) booked our hotel, we made a mistake and asked for a single room for 2 people. You can interpret that to mean 2 single beds for 2 people or 1 single bed for 2 people. As it happened it was the latter one we had and the single bed was small. The people that ran the place were very good about this and we did have a lot of fun trying to sort out the situation. In the end we ended up with a very large room that had 4 beds in. So my error in the first place turned out to be in our favour. We did eventually get the tickets to watch the tennis final and it was a great experience. We were picked up at lunch time and drove the 1hr journey to the airport in Managua to catch our plane at 2pm. We´d been told that we were lucky to get tickets to fly out the same day because the plane only accomodates 15 people, so I had no high expectations of the plane or the terminal we´d be flying from. But I had thought that the terminal would be more than a shack (it wasn´t!), and that the plane would at least be from this side of World War II (it wasn´t!). Anyhow, the $165 we paid for the return ticket couldn´t go to waste so we boarded the..."thing"... with shaking knees, a rapid heart beat and, although not religious, we both prayed to God...just in case. Once onboard the small twin prop, the flight was actually fairly pleasant. We didn´t seem to fly at a very high altitude (not sure whether that was intentional, or a result of the inability to pressurise the cabin!) so we had an amazing view of Lake Nicaragua, the lush jungle and ultimately the Carribean Sea, as we flew towards the islands. Uneventful flight but some wonderful scenery as we passed over some of the rivers flowing into the Bay of Bengal. The coastline was made up of thousands of little islets and islands and the combined effect when seen from a plane at altitude was of gazing down on something like a water lily pond. Arrived at Rangoon, the old terminal there looks like a throwback to colonial times as does much of the architecture in central Rangoon. Went through immigration with no problems, and a taxi driver approached me and asked me which hotel I wanted to goto. I had in mind a place I'd selected from the lp, but he claimed to know of a place located in downtown Rangoon where he could get me a good discount called the Asia Plaza. The hotel was a 3 star place and the room was only $20 which seemed a bargain. My room was on the tenth floor with great views of central Rangoon, the giant gold stupa of the Shwedagon Padoga shimmering in the middle distance. After a quick brush-up I took a walk around Rangoon. Visited the Sole Padoga which is the most famous Pagoda in Rangoon after the Shwedagon. Entry from: Buenos Aires, Argentina Entry Title: "The Paris of South America" Entry: "Friday Up late we head out in the heat (about 29 degrees), the city is bustling and a marked contrast to Antarctica or even Ushuaia! We wander around through a park with lots of heart sculptures decorated differently and then towards the beautiful old train station, Torres de Londres (like a mini Big Ben, but sadly closed to climb up). The architecture is very Parisien as are the very wide avenues and boulevards. We buy our bus tickets for a couple of days time to Mendoza and have lunch in a canteen which sets us back about 3 quid for a huge meal and drink. It is so cheap here - we love it! We then get the metro to Congreso via a line with wooden olde carriages which was cool. The Congress is a massive imposing building in a huge square. We were hoping to go inside but its closed as an impending demonstration is looming and it is therefore surrounded in barricades and some police. We walk through the square and down to the Broadway section of BA to see equally naff plays as you would at home. We get to Teatro Colon which is a 2500 seater theatre and beautiful to boot. There is an opera on tomorow which we hope to go to but find out its actually somewhere else and fully booked til Sunday so bang goes that plan. Then ...

I'm currently sitting in a blissfully air conditioned Internet cafe, outside it's an extremely bright 33 degrees Celsius in Kuala Lumpur. Today is actually the first time we have properly seen the sun since being here, the air outside is normally of a dense grey smoggy quality, although cloud or no cloud, humidity is still around 79% (according to google weather) and any amount of time outside gives the sensation of pollution slowly seeping into your skin as the sweat pours out. Kuala Lumpur is a world away from Singapore. The super modern high-rises have been replaced with a mixture of run-down colonial buildings and Arabic architecture. The streets are far dirtier but also far more exciting, usually filled with vendors selling exotic fruits or aromatic food, or as in Chinatown where we are staying, "genuine copy" designer handbags, purses and DVDs. Everywhere you go people are calling you to buy something from them at a 'special price'! The Hostel we are staying in is a really nice but VERY basic place in Chinatown accessed by walking up 2 flights of dingy cobwebby stairs behind a newspaper/cigarette stand. I had a coffee and checked my mail and collected addresses of backpackers in Granada.. As today I want to check out other backpackers. To see if I can find a better backpackers then The Bearded Monkey. Not that it's a bad backpackers, but maybe I can get a good deal when I stay somewhere for 14 days and maybe there are nicer places. And it's a good way to get to know Granada a bit as it will be my home for probably 14 days. I walked around town and went into various hotels and hostels.. After visiting a few I found Hostal San Angel. For USD$ 12.00 per night with Wifi and breakfast included. So that's my new house for the next few days.. I'm not sure yet if I stay here for the next 14 days, but at least for a few days.. If I find something better I move there. But it looks like a good place.. I have my own room with en-suite, so that's great for only a few dollars. After I found the place I walked back to The Bearded Monkey and packed my bags and walked with my bags to Hostal San Angel.. Paris is magnifique!.. We survived the flight ok. Sarah has managed to survive the new jersy airport monorail unscathed, though had a close call with the sliding doors entering the train. Funny story: while trying to transport our sorry buts to air india, as we entered the transport train we realized we might be on the wrong one. Tory (the quick one) jumped out, sarah, being not fast enough, got stuck on the train, while screaming and waving to tory to save her!!! So, tory did, sacrificing herself for her friend. (much appreciated). When arriving safely at long last to the terminal, we heard: paging tory bryant and sarah bagwell over the intercom. Feeling like royalty we trottted up to the counter thinking we would get our dues, only to find out that we had stupidly forgotten our return tickets for the US at the checkin counter!!! Plenty incidents to come, that weve yet to mention (including one of tory getting stuck in a door) ...... we are ...

Wednesday morning I checked Facebook and email before school. That afternoon when I got home again, one of the connections I was able to use sometimes now required a password. The connection that I usually used had just disappeared. I was a little bit frustrated since I only have a month left at this point, but I know that I was still lucky to have it as long as I did. The worst part is being cut off from the real world; I'm unable to communicate with my family or Chris unless I'm at school (which is closed on weekends). Our flight to Barcelona was scheduled to leave Granada around 9:20 pm. I had three classes that day, my last one ending at 6:30. I went to my morning Grammar class, checked my email before I left the school, walked quickly home, had lunch, packed, and brought everything with me for my next two classes from 3:30-6:30. From class I wouldn't have time to go home and still catch the airport bus. On my way back to school after lunch and packing, I wanted to go to the grocery store to grab a banana and something else for the flight since I knew it was going to be a long night. I'm getting pretty sick of bread at this point so I didn't know how ...

We landed (ahead of schedule) and were whisked through the ultra-modern KLIA terminal to an awaiting high-speed train link to downtown KL where we transferred to the Monorail and were deposited outside our Tune hotel via a rooftop tour of the city. KL is a modern, clean, safe and enthralling city - Malaysia has a defined goal to become a 'fully developed country' (whatever that means!) by 2020, and we must say it feels that way already - we are impressed. We grabbed a map and stomped off down through the Little India part of town (door-to-door sari shops blaring Indian pop music onto the street) towards the old colonial centrepiece - Merdeka, or Independence, Square. The square is, unusually for city centre squares, a flat, green lawn, and is where the Brits used to enjoy a spot of cricket. It is surrounded by a modest white-washed christian church on one side, the cricket club's mock tudor clubhouse along another, the world's largest flagpole at the southern end, and the east side houses domed government buildings that were clearly spares from a job-lot that the British Empire had done for Delhi. There's a campaign at the moment for the 7 naural wonders. Iguazu just got our vote. We arrived at Foz de Iguazu airport in Brazil around 3:30pm and were collected by Edgardo Morales, a driver organized through our Hotel in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina. His car was waiting for us just outside the airport doors and within 15 minutes, we were at the Brazilian falls. Working in the tourist industry, he was able to buy two tickets for us through the tour guide desk, which saved us at least an hour queuing with the 100+ other people waiting to buy tickets. Edgardo took our suitcases with him and arranged to meet us back at the front gates at 6pm so off we went. This Brazilian side of the falls really do give an excellent panorama and sense of the size of the falls (I believe there are over 200 falls in total). The winding trail up to the Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat) gave plenty of opportunities for superb photos (if you can find a gap among all the tourists trying to do the same thing!). Near the end of the trail, there is a walkway out into the river with the falls crashing down nearby -- to get wet, but in the scorching temperatures ...

Entry from: Amsterdam, Netherlands Entry Title: "Day 1 - Arrival in Amsterdam" Entry: "We'd read that Amsterdam is a great entry to Europe because there are few language barriers and lots to see and do, so from the beginning we planned to enter Europe through Amsterdam even though the place we wanted to spend the most time was Belgium. We found a wonderful deal on a direct flight from Toronto to Amsterdam through Air Transat. It was even cheaper if we flew home from Frankfurt so we extended our trip to an open jaw adventure that allowed us to see Germany as well as Brussels and the Netherlands. Our flight left Toronto at 11pm and arrived in Amsterdam around noon. The flight was completely uneventful. Most rows on the Air Transat airbus have seats 9(!) across 3x3x3, so we paid $30 extra per person to sit in 2x3x2 double seats in the back of the plane. A bit more leg room for 6'3" MB and more importantly less cramped aisles so we weren't bumped around by the carts. We hoped to sleep a bit on the overnight flight but only managed a few hours each. They woke us to serve a horrible, lean-cuisine-style chicken dish after midnight and again to give us a muffin in the morning. No issues and the flight arrived right on time. No complaints. Yesterday (Sat.) was a travel day, bginning with a 6:00 am wake up call. Kim and I had to pack up our gear, take some last minute photos, and try to confrim our hotel reservation in Hanoi and our junk cruise in Halong Bay. The internet service in Railay has been sporadic, so Kim has been playing email tag with our travel company in Hanoi. Our stress levels began to rise as again no official confirmation could be made and we had to leave to make our 12:00 pm to Bangkok to connect with our flight to Vietnam. Not a big deal, except we had to take another longboat from Railay (which didn't leave until after 9 am) to Krabi, and then a cab to the Krabi airport. Fortunately, each leg went smoothly and everyone involved was very helpful. I have to say that, unlike in America, where most of the airport staff seems determined to do everything in thier power to make your air travel as difficult as possible, the Asian airlines staff have been helpful to a fault, explaining all options, facilitating connections, and in several instances when they could tell we were confused they personally walked us to where we needed to go. Very comforting ...

So we turned to our trusty Lonely planet book and found a riad that was listed as the "coolest" riat in Marrakech. So we were glad that we could get a room. Unfortunately after staying in the riats in Fez, and the two Kashbahs in the desert (which we thought were pretty cool) our definintion of "cool" wasn't as hip as the Lonely Planets. I don't know what this says about us (maybe we're not as hip as we thought) but this place was way to chic for us and kind of a disappointment. (Black and white tile floors, plain white walls, no tile work, and a purple room.) We decided to stay there only one night and be on our way to E ssaouira. We ventured out to the grand plaza, called Djemma El Fna. It was filled with different "shows" or circus/acrobatic acts, story telling, musicians, fortune tellers, etc. that each had a surrounding of people watching and giving a few coins for the show. There was also a line of stalls with fresh food being served, including fried calamari and other fish, and fresh vegetables that you could chose to have cooked up into a side ...

Entry from: Sydney, Australia Entry Title: "Day 89 - Sydney" Entry: "Today was our last full day in Sydney, and we realised that we'd be quite sad to move on. Although we've not had great weather here, and we haven't really explored all there is to see in the city, we've had a really good and relaxed time here, and of course Eric is the main reason for that. He's been the perfect host! We had a few things to organise today, first on the list was to get our round-the-world paper airline tickets updated & re-printed. Yet again this was a very frustrating experience, but the lady who eventually helped us in the Qantas office was fantastic. She seemed to know a hell of a lot more than most of the other muppets we've been dealing with so far over the phone, so it was refreshing to be able to talk through all our issues with her. We'd intended to re-route our flights leaving Oz, from Christchurch to Auckland (so that we can work our way down NZ from north to south, and spend Xmas with my little sister Bex in Christchurch), but after a long and complicated discussion the Qantas lady helped us realise it was best to keep our flights as they are, and to get a separate flight up to Auckland instead. We quickly shot out to an internet cafe to see if we could get a better price than the A$95 that she was quoting ...
