Differences of Tour Operators and Travel Agents

Tour Operators & travel Agents are different in Malaysia! And the public have had the wrong perception for long time. In Malaysia, Tour Operators and Travel Agents are different and play different roles. In a factory scenario, a Tour Operator is like the production department and the Travel Agent is like the Sales Department...

A Tour Operator is the organizer and provider of package holidays. It is often referred as the Ground Handler. The Tour Company will make contracts with hotels and resorts, airlines and ground transport companies like private cars, buses, vans, ferries and trains & etc. With all the necessary pricing and information compiled, the Tour Operator will draft detailed tour packages and distribute to Travel Agents in Travel Agent Directory in Malaysia and even overseas.

The roles & responsibilities of a Tour Operator are booking and arranging:

- Transportation: Chaffered Car, Chartered Bus & Van, Air Ticket, Train Ticket, Ferry Ticket, Cruise Ticket, other transit modes and even special vehicles like trishaw.
- Tour Guide: All Tour Guides must be licensed by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia after attending and examined in a professional Tourist Guide Courses.
- Sight Seeing: Entrance for tourist destinations, eco-tour, adventures tour, jungle trekking, snorkeling & scuba diving, island hopping and even handicraft or cultural & living experiences.
- Food & Beverage: Breakfast, Tea Time or Tea Break, Lunch & Dinner, whether by set, buffet or packed food.
- Accommodation: Hotels, Resorts, Service Apartments, Camping Sites, Dormitories, Training Camps, Chalets, Tree Houses or traditional houses & habitats that accommodating travelers.
- Activities: Tele-match, treasure hunt, paint ball, team building, outside office meeting...
- Special Events: Company dinner, karaoke contest.

On the other hand, Travel Agents do not operate tours. Travel agencies gives traveling advices to travelers, promote and sell the tour packages that they have from various Tour Operators, then administer the tour bookings. Travel Agents usually are set up in prime locations with heavy traffic such as beside the main roads, inside crowed shopping malls or at the ground floor of a landmark building.

The roles & responsibilities of a Travel Agent are:

- Selling ells travel related products and services, particularly package tours to end-user customers on behalf of third party travel suppliers, such as airlines, hotels, tour operator and tour companies, and cruise lines & etc.
- Most travel agents have a special department devoted to travel arrangements for business travelers, while some agencies specialize in commercial and business travelers.
- Some also serve as general service agents for foreign travel companies in different countries.
- Act as an agent for tour packages:
- Buy tour packages or tour services at discounts & sell with profits.
- Get commissions from suppliers & other tour companies.
- Act as a ticketing agent for transportation (e.g. airlines, ferry, bus, train & etc).
- Other commercial operations are undertaken: insurance, travel guides, car rental, Bureau de change, private tour guide & etc.
- Offer impartial travel advice to the customer.

Next time, if you traveling in small group less than 10 travelers, it is advisable to engage a Travel Agent. Do not try to find the best travel agent in Malaysia. There is no such myth! Just go with the travel agent that suit your traveling needs and budgets or the tour agent that you trusted the most. However, if you are organizing a group tour like company tour, a Tour Operator will be able to provide you a more suitable tailor-made service.

The above information are guidelines and advices that 88Holidays provided to its Corporate Clients in organizing group tour. It is simple but useful information to help organizing a successful company tour with many years experiences.

Best and Worst Times to Travel to Europe

When planning your European trip, check your arrival and departures dates and see if they take into account peak, off-peak and shoulder travel periods.

Peak periods are the times when majority of travelers fly in and out of countries and these periods usually coincide with school holidays, Christmas, Easter and New Year. The country you are flying into will also have peak periods unique to that country, so expect flights and accommodation to be heavily booked and tickets to be more expensive. This peak period generally covers late December to January (because of the Christmas season) and late June to the end of August (summer break). Travel during the Christmas holidays can be difficult as plane ticket prices soar and ski resorts start overcharging. Public transport is also reduced in most areas since only a few trains will leave on Christmas day. The "shoulder period" is in spring and autumn and the low or "off-peak" periods are usually in the remaining months and in the winter.

If you have only a limited time to see Europe, your best bet is to fly in and out during a shoulder period. Prices are almost at their lowest and travel conditions are great because you can avoid the crowds and the overpricing. If you have a lot of time to spare in Europe, try flying in the low season when fares are cheapest so you have more money to spread over your stay. It's always a good idea to start checking airfares 3-4 months before you leave. Airlines are starting to discount in order to reward early bookers and there's a lot time to wait if you think they're too high. The cheapest ticket prices might turn up on the net or at your ticket office at anytime. And while you're at it, make sure you've already reserved your accommodation 6 weeks to 2 months before you leave. It's a good idea to reserve a hotel for your arrival and departure days. The rest can be reserved afterwards. Also, remember to check for travel dangers and updates. Your government and insurance company might draw the line if you visit a certain territory they've warned you about. Be informed about the dangers and uprisings in the country you are visiting and do last-minute updates to check conditions right before you leave.

For most seasoned travelers, the best time to see Europe is from April to June and September to October when the weather is still warm, the holiday crowds have left and accommodation and transport are regularly priced.

In contrast, the single worst time to visit most parts of Europe (especially the western and southern countries) is the month of August. This is when many Europeans leave and take their holidays in nearby countries as well. The cities can be deserted and as a result, accommodation prices shoot up and finding a bed can be very difficult. Buses and trains will often be packed and it can be a struggle to get a seat while you cross countries. Even most tourist shops and sites can be closed because the proprietors have gone on holiday as well! There's little doubt that July and August are the busiest tourist months in Europe (mainly because of Americans on vacation) and it will require a lot of patience and money. Avoid these months as much as you can. If you really must travel in the high season, your best course of action is to stay away from the major cities and choose the off-track towns and villages and indulge in the local culture.

Sinus Pressure Relief and Air Travel - 4 Steps to Take

Many people have a tendency to come down with sinus infections during or after air travel. The four steps discussed in this article can help provide sinus pressure relief for those who travel by air on a regular basis.

There are a number of reasons why people who are susceptible to sinus infections tend to contact them during air travel. Sharing stale air in close proximity to others is certainly one reason, and oftentimes this air contains more bacteria and viruses than the air in our normal living environments. The low humidity in plane cabins is another contributing factor. The dry air we breathe in airplanes tends to impair the normal mucous-cilia system and make people more prone to bacteria and viruses. Since airplane cabins are pressurized and the pressure is changing during climb and descent, this can also have harmful effects.

Four suggestions to obtain sinus pressure relief in conjunction with air travel include: drinking lots of water before and during long flights; using a saline solution during the flight; doing the Modified Valsalva maneuver; and taking a decongestant before air travel.

Drink Lots of Water

The air intake that occurs at very high altitudes to ventilate plane cabins contains very dry air. Drinking water prior to and during flights can help retain moisture in the body and keep the nasal system as moist as possible. In addition, alcohol and caffeine are often consumed by people on long flights, and these also tend to dehydrate people. Making an effort to drink water regularly on long flights can help avoid dryness of the nasal passages.

Use Saline Solution Often During the Flight

It is wise to bring a small bottle of saline solution along and use it every hour or so to help keep the nose moist. Over the counter saline solutions all contain preservatives, and some people are bothered by these. It is possible to mix a solution yourself without preservatives and avoid this problem. One-half of a teaspoon of salt added to 8 oz. of water is a proper mixture. I personally use a product called Breathe-ease XL® for both nasal irrigation and for making a spray bottle without preservative, and this will be good to use for about a week. These saline sprays offer sinus pressure relief by keeping the nasal membranes irrigated and maintaining proper drainage.

Use the Modified Valsalva Maneuver

Dr. M. Lee Williams describes the maneuver in his book "The Sinusitis Help Book". To do this one clamps the nose between the thumb and forefinger, swallows, and then immediately blows into the nose without letting go. One should not blow forcefully into the nose, a gentle pressure will suffice. Dr. Williams says that this should be done several times per minute during ascent and especially descent as cabin pressure is changing during those times. It should also be done several times per hour while the plane is at altitude. It is important not to forget to swallow just before blowing gently into the nose.

Consider Taking a Decongestant Before the Flight

I generally use flonase spray each night as part of my regular regime to combat sinus problems. I'll also use it about an hour or two before any flight. On long flights to Europe, I'll also take 5 mg of prednisone. I find this keeps my nasal passages clear and functioning well, even though flights to Europe from the U.S. are long. Prednisone should be used very sparingly, however, as it can cause damage to the immune system, so this should be taken only in consultation with your doctor.

By realizing that the air in airplane cabins is stale, dry and often polluted, one can obtain sinus pressure relief by drinking lots of water before and during flights, using a saline spray, doing the Modified Valsalva maneuver as described above, and taking a decongestant prior to takeoff, especially on long trips. You should also try to simply avoid air travel if you have a cold and stuffiness prior to a trip.

Look for the best holiday packages Europe or Europe vacation rentals that will suit your pocket as well as your choice of spending your vacation. Plan your destination: Some of the most visited destinations in Europe are London, Madrid, Prague, Rome and Paris. They might not be cheap, but they can provide you an insight into the cultural and the historical diversity of the continent. While London brings you the royal entourage, Spain brings you the colour and the splendour of carnivals and traditional parades. Best visited during spring, Paris is the hub of lovers, art enthusiasts, foodies and historians. One gets to see some of the most magnificent buildings and constructions in Paris, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre museum and the Notre Dame castle. Italy, however, has a spiritual air to it with the Vatican City and the numerous churches and cathedrals. However, the fact that it is also the hub for fashion, cannot be ignored. Hit on the street fashion and get the best deals in the streets of Via Borgognona, Via Condotti and Via Frattina. Prague is another beautiful destination, which is known for its Gothic architecture, historical landmarks, and mystique sites and so on.

How to Travel Cheap - Tips for Locating the Best Airfare Deals

I love to travel, and unless I am only going a short distance, I prefer to travel by air. But how to travel cheap and get decent airfare prices these days? Here are a few tips.

1. Try to avoid leaving on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. You may find your ticket prices to be up to 50% higher on these days. Instead, begin your travel on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and be sure to stay overnight on Saturday for the best deals.

2. Traveling one way? Even though you will find this doesn't work all the time, be sure to check for round-trip prices as well since there are occasions where it is cheaper than flying one-way. Crazy? Sure, but hey, we are trying to save money here so do what you have to.

How to Travel Cheap - Tips for Locating the Best Airfare Deals

3. How to travel cheap during the holidays? If you plan to travel on a holiday, be sure to book your tickets well in advance. For one thing, you will have a hard time getting the seats and dates you want if you wait until the last minute, but you also will save on airfare by buying early. However, be sure of your itinerary because you will cancel out all savings you made if you have to change your travel dates.

4. Make sure you always book your flights at least 21 days in advance. This will get you the best fares. The earlier the better in this case. Never buy tickets within 7 days of your planned departure if you can help it, as you will pay a significantly higher fare.

5. Consider traveling on the "red eye" flights. Check with your travel agent to see if you can save with these late-night fares. You can often save as much as 25% this way.

I hope you can use these how-to-travel-cheap airfare tips to help you save money on your next trip.

Top 10 Travel Tips To Help You Book A Dirt Cheap Flight

Smart travelers don't sit in a travel agents office to plan their vacations anymore, they go to travel websites to find discount airfare deals and book their own cheap flights. Airline carriers are at war and smart consumers who know the secrets to finding great online travel deals, can take advantage of this instability and save hundreds on their plane tickets.

Despite what you may have heard, tickets on flights are not sold at a fixed rate. Most airlines have a complex grading system in place for ticket prices. They have a set number of seats they must fill for a certain price and a second block of seats they will let go for a slightly cheaper ticket price and third set of seats for a another discounted ticket price. So, at any given time when you try to buy online airline tickets, you could come up with a number of different prices.

The secret to dirt cheap airfare, is knowing exactly when, where and how to buy the tickets. Timing is everything when it comes to finding cheap airfare. Should you buy your tickets one, two or six months before your desired departure date? Will you save more by purchasing round trip tickets or one way flights? Should you travel on or off season, and exactly when are the popular flight travel seasons? And finally, should you buy your plane tickets through a discount travel site, or through a popular travel search directory like Expedia or Travelocity?

Top 10 Travel Tips To Help You Book A Dirt Cheap Flight

Your first tip to find cheap airfare is to check out several travel directories that offer price results for all the major airlines so that you can compare ticket prices at a glance. My favorites are Expedia.com for their consistently low flight price quotes and easy two click price checks, Cheaptickets, com for their large inventory of cheap airfare selections and sidestep.com for their huge selection of customized flight results. As a traveler you need to log on to these websites and get a feel for how often the prices change and bookmark them for future use.

Airlines and travel websites offer bigger discounts and cheaper airfare prices to people who book online because it saves them the overhead costs of printing and handling a paper ticket. So be sure to use the e-ticket option when purchasing your plane tickets online. Don't wait till the last minute though, the best cheap airfare prices are found about 21 days before your departure date.

The highest plane ticket prices are found 14 days or less before departure, so don't wait till the last minute to buy your ticket if you're hoping to find discount airfare. But keep in mind that many airlines give away dirt cheap plane tickets about half an hour before liftoff.

Be sure to purchase round trip tickets rather than one way, the best cheap airfare deals are usually offered to round trip travelers.

Cheap flights during the holidays can be hard to find, the secret is to fly the day of the holiday not the day before or after when flights are jam packed.

You can save even more money on airfare if your plan your vacation during the off season. Travel professionals say that the best time to book a cheap flight online is mid-January to end February, April through May, and in the fall from mid-September to mid-December.

The time of day that you book online plane tickets is important too. If you checked plane ticket prices at 6 am and then again at 6 pm on the same travel website, you'd be shocked to find that you just lost 20 or 30 bucks by waiting too long or not long enough. Another variable that is imperative to finding dirt cheap flights is, the day of the week you make your online ticket purchase. Most traveler's purchase their tickets on a Saturday or Sunday, but is that the smartest day to get dirt cheap airfare?

How to Find Cheap Airline Tickets When You Travel

Before you go on any vacation or travel anywhere in the world, if you want to save money you should really consider doing some homework before you go. Below are some of the ways that you can save money on find cheap airline tickets.

Do your research on the internet, call airline booking agencies and watch the news programs to keep yourself up to date on discounts. There are a lot of promotional fares offered by different airline companies that are new in the industry. Compare prices between different websites.

When you are a frequent traveler maybe you should consider signing up for frequent flier miles. You could one day travel for absolutely FREE when you accumulate enough frequent flier miles.

How to Find Cheap Airline Tickets When You Travel

Are you a senior or is there a senior going to be traveling with you? Maybe you should call the traveling agencies about senior discount.  Maybe you can do the same thing if you are a student. Some airlines give discount to students.

It is a good idea to keep a flexible travel schedule. Roll with the punches. I mean if there is a promotion states that they only give discounts every Tuesdays like the movie theatres, maybe you should book your airline tickets on Tuesday. Did you know that, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the days that have fewer reservations therefore on these days that tickets are sold cheap. Monday is usually the busiest day of the week because it is a first of the working schedule for most people. Try not to book on Monday.

One thing I recommend not to do is make reservations to the first airline company you see with a promotion of some sort. You should consider taking your time be patient and find out if the promotion is indeed the cheapest in your area. Ask the agency clerk about other offers available. When search on line, make sure you check at least five sites before you decide where to buy your tickets.

Another place that you can purchase cheap airline tickets is through consolidators. If you don't know then these are people who buy a lot of tickets at huge discount from the airline companies and resell them at whole sale prices. This helps the airline fill up still available seats. The good place to check for this is the travel section of the newspaper.

If you can avoid, try not to book on off peak hours schedule. Most likely if you book before seven in the morning flight or book the after seven in the evening flight, airline tickets are at their cheapest. This too, will be a wise decision since it is at these times that airlines are not overcrowded, thus getting more space for yourself and your luggage.

Remember always ask the airline ticket agent if that particular airline offers bonus traveling packages. Some airlines do offer packages such as car rental discount or a hotel room discount that comes with the airplane ticket.

Always consider book air tickets ahead of time. Discounts are usually offered to someone who reserves airline ticket three weeks or earlier beforehand. Don't forget due to over crowding during the holidays, you may not use your frequent flier miles. Therefore it is a good idea to book in advance if you plan to travel during the holidays.

One final thought, staying with only one airline on your entire trip may too, give you discounts. Airlines offer special rates to round trip tickets or connecting flights.

I hope these advices helped you in finding cheap air fare. Enjoy your trip.

Find Online Travel Deals

Online travel deals are surprisingly easy to find and easier to land. The trick is finding one that suits your purpose. There's always a cheaper option available. Rather than focusing solely on the economics, it would serve you better to enquire why the deal is so cheap and what you would be foregoing in order to avail the fabulous low prices. Often you might prefer to pay a bit more and enjoy a modicum of comfort and arrive safe.

The simple secret to getting a good travel deal online is to shop around. Often a you can find price differences between sites. If you are willing to do your homework, a better rate can usually be found. Another well known secret is that if you choose to book during off season periods you will definitely get fabulous rates whether it's airline fare or an amusement park ticket. The use of certain credit cards for online bookings also helps to get discounts, as those adding up those air miles and points rewards.

Travel arrangements from booking airline tickets to fixing an itinerary, hotel accommodation, tickets for various events and venues are done online these days. The more you surf, the more choices you're faced with. Eleventh hour bookings have become the norm, and there is a whole genre of travel sites focused on this type of clients. This has indeed grown to be a substantial part of online travel arrangements for most people.

Find Online Travel Deals

Most of the major online travel sites in the US and Canada, such as Expedia, Travelocity and others, have fantastic package deals that give you more bang for your buck. A package deal does not mean a group tour, but rather a deal where airline tickets, accommodation, and sometimes even a car rental all are "packaged" together for usually a lower price than you would pay for separately.

Booking hotel accommodation online can get you good discounts even at star hotels. Be careful however, some deeply discounted bookings may not be refundable in the event you decide to cancel so always check the fine print. Another option for discounted hotel prices are Hotwire.com and Priceline.com. Both are both popular discount travel sites that offer attractive discounts on hotel rooms. Referring to itself as the king of online travel, the Priceline's claim to fame is the "name your own price" where the buyers are free to fix their rates for hotel rooms. With either company, you pick the price, quality, amenities, and neighborhood you want, but you are not able to choose a specific hotel. With Priceline, you bid on the hotel which meets your needs. You then find out if the price you choose was accepted and if it was, your hotel is booked. In contrast, when using Hotwire, you don't bid on your hotel and the prices are displayed.

In all, finding travel deals has never been easier, what you do need to watch out for is the fine print. Do your research, compare prices and always read the terms and conditions - happy holidays!

Smart Travel Tips for Smart Travelers

Travelling to a foreign land is not as easy as it seems. You need to put a lot of planning and foresight to get it right each time, every time. There may be times when you have to find cheap flights and tickets and pack your bags at a moment's notice and for that you have to be keep yourself ready for any exigency. As a rule of thumb, try and avoid going to destinations that are ridden with drought, flood, civil strife or war, even it means skipping a few exotic destinations.

One of the first things that you should do is to scan all your important identity documents like passports, driving license and save them in your email account. These would prove to be very helpful in case of theft or loss of luggage. Take extra care of your luggage and your personal belongings. It would be wise if you keep your wallet and other personal documents in your hand luggage and not in your check in luggage lest it might get misplaced.

Carrying too much cash in person may not be a good idea. It would be much better to carry internationally valid credit cards and debit cards for purchases abroad as most of them come with a purchase protection warranty. Traveller's cheques are also proven to be quite convenient for tourists. Convert and keep a substantial amount of local currency in your wallet as it will save you from the hassle of carrying wads full of cash.

Smart Travel Tips for Smart Travelers

Rising fuel costs have forced international air carriers to place restrictions on the amount of luggage passengers can carry. And therefore it is advisable not to carry too much luggage. Keep a lot of silk clothing as you can pack more in limited space.

Avoid taking jeans as they take too much time to dry or if you have some old clothes that you want to discard, you can take them along. This will ensure that you have more space in your suitcase for carrying return gifts and souvenirs back home. You can reward local people for the help they extend to you by gifting them the clothes that you don't want to wear anymore. They might love to have a few clothes in their wardrobe made of fabrics produced in a foreign land.

Once you land in your destination city, you should find out where the taxi stand is or better still arrange for a hotel pick up that will ensure that you don't get lost in an unknown city. Staying in a reputed guest house or star class hotels would help as that would ensure that you are not only secure but also get the best of food and comforts in an unfamiliar land.

Cheapest Airline Tickets - How to Find Best Travel Deals

So you are in the market for cheap airline tickets, but not sure where to start and how to find the best travel deals. The reality is that in order to find the cheapest flight fares and schedules you need to know when and where to look and how to search. Yes, it is that easy, and all you need to know is several tricks. First of all, do you need a domestic or an international travel ticket?

Domestic Air Travel

These can be US domestic flight or flights within Europe, or within any country or other continent. If you are looking great flight deals, you need to know WHERE to look for low airfares. If you are looking for flights within the US, you may contact local US airlines or travel agencies or look up flights on the online travel search engine.

Cheapest Airline Tickets - How to Find Best Travel Deals

Airlines compete among each other and they can give great flight deals (just know WHEN to look). Travel agencies might also find you great deals. Here is the truth... lately several airlines and several large and well known travel agencies started having some issues and several airline banned those huge agencies from selling their airline tickets. Therefore, small and specialized agencies still do have very good contracts with major airlines of the world. So, my advise is to look who has the best flight deal, not at the size of the agency or the popularity. At the end of the day, it matters how much you pay for the ticket and that you have a confirmed seat.

Most smaller travel agencies have online only booking so they can save YOU money by eliminating staff salaries. Most of the time travel agencies use the same fares as airlines offer (unless negotiated better rates), but usually with 0 commission. Since agencies need to survive, they are forced to add a small service fee on the top of the ticket price. If you do not mind that, call your travel agent or best of all go online and check flights yourself. If you are traveling within Europe, you might want to contact a travel agent or search online travel agents' websites first. In Europe local travel agencies and agencies outside Europe that specialize in international travel will have low fares because they use very low so called consolidator fares. This is nothing else, but negotiated contracts with airlines to sell special very low priced airline tickets.

International Travel

Whether you live in the US or other country, you travel internationally if you leave your country of residence.

What concerns transatlantic, transpacific or other between countries international travel, your best bet is a travel agency. The consolidators will offer you the best fare deals and will find you the best schedules. Depending on personal preferences, some might prefer talking to a travel agent, while others would want to do their own fare search online at their own pace. There is no right or wrong choice here. As long as you find a flight and a fare that works for you, you succeed. HOW to find a travel agency or a good travel website Always work with the travel agent or travel website that specializes in your travel destination or region. For example, if you need to fly from the US to Europe, search for 'flights to Europe' or so. Usually online search will give you best results. Check several websites or call several travel agents and compare the deals.

NOTE, you might know lots of huge agencies like Travelocity, Orbitz, etc. They might seem attractive to you because they are big and well known. But they will not always give you the best flight, hotel or cruise deals. They might be good for US domestic travel, but not always for international travel.

HOW and WHEN to search for best fares

Where you need a flight, hotel or a cruise, you need to know how to find the best fares and when to look for those. Let's say that you found a travel agent or travel website that specialized in your travel destination.

5 tips on How to Find your Best Travel Deal:

  1. Be Flexible. In order to find lowest price, you might need to be flexible on travel dates, arrival/departure times, airlines, and sometimes destinations. In short, there are different price levels for every flight and the only difference is the price and number of seats an airline assigns to that price level. Therefore, all depends on when you buy a ticket, how popular is the destination, travel season (peak or low), and how full the flight gets.
  2. Book domestic travel tickets as early as you can (this applied to some international travel as well). Most domestic airlines have best fares with 21, 14, and 7 day advance purchase. This means that you may find lower fares when booking (= purchasing) a flight this many days before the flight.
  3. 'Play' with the search. This means that you need to be creative when searching for flights. Check flights couple days or weeks (if possible) earlier and later, check various airlines, different connections (an airline might have several hubs or fly with 1 or several connections), search based on price and try searching based on schedule (you'll see different results).
  4. Check travel package deals. If the purpose of your travel is vacation, instead of booking flights, hotel, and car rental separately, check on travel package rates. Sometimes your total package rate is lower that if you book everything separately.
  5. Use miles or points when possible. Apply for airline/ hotel/ car rental, etc. frequent traveler programs. They are FREE, and you can get lots of benefits. For example, I cannot remember the last time I paid for a hotel room when Hilton Hotel is in my destination. Check out hiltonhhonors.com website. Go to the airline, car rental, or hotel websites and sign up. The only disadvantage of using miles and points is that you need to book your travel early as there is limited number of seats for miles or points on the plane and they go fast.

If you cannot decide whether to use an airline or a travel agent, here are some suggestions.

AIRLINE vs. TRAVEL AGENT/AGENCY WEBSITE

Advantages of booking a ticket with an airline:

  • you are talking directly to the carrier, the entity responsible for a flight
  • it may take much less time to deal with the airline directly (if an agent knows his/her job)
  • airline customers representatives are usually open 24/7

Advantages of using travel agents or travel websites:

  • lower negotiated (consolidator) fares
  • more flight options; travel agents/travel websites search all possible airlines, not just one
  • low fares available 24/7 given that an agency has a online booking system

Please send in your comments on how you find your best deals, and I shall be happy to share them with the rest of the world. Good luck!
