Cross the Pond, March 2010 Westbound

The first Cross the Pond for the year of 2010 is scheduled to be held on Saturday, the 27th of March 2010. Slot bookings are available at the official website: ctp.vatsim-uk.org This Premier Vatsim event is the regular biannual event hosted by Vatsim European Division and vatusa whereby 4 deparutre airfields and 3 arrival airfields ... and more importantly, all the airspace between, is activated for a cross-the-atlantic flyin. Hundreds, perhaps even over 1000 pilots, will connect to this highly staffed airspace and fly across the Atlantic on longhaul flights lasting in excess of 6 hours. Utilizing full oceanic procedures including NAT tracks, SELCAL, and procedural control seperation methods, this event is prepared well in advance with slot times being available for pre-bookings from the First of March. This assures that the Procedural seperation section of the flight (Oceanic portion) runs smoothly as some seperation is prepared via the slots. In effect the organisers are starting Seperation of traffic over the atlantic as early as 27 days before the flights even takeoff by designating a schedule for takeoffs. This facilitates aircraft crossing the Atlantic via any one of 4 (or 5) NAT tracks and all available RVSM altitudes (FL300 310 320 330 340 350 360 370 380 390 400 410) and even takes into account aircraft speeds (Mach 0.80 for 767's all the way up to Mach 0.86+ for 747-400's) Pilots that Register are given slot priority (although those that don't book... or did ...
